Air alert announced in Lugansk as Ukrainian warplanes are circling over the city

People are yet not being evacuated from the city

LUGANSK, June 14. /ITAR-TASS/. An air-raid warning was announced in Lugansk on Saturday as Ukrainian planes are flying over the city, the press service of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic told Itar-Tass.

“Ukrainian warplanes are circling over the city. An air alert has been announced. Since the planes are not delivering any strikes at the moment, people are not being evacuated from the city as of yet,” the press service said.

On Friday, Ukrainian helicopters shot at a checkpoint of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic near the Schastye village. Ukrainian troops have resumed the shelling of the Semyonovka village near Slavyansk, the Donetsk region, from heavy artillery guns, a spokesman for the self-defence forces told Itar-Tass. “Civilians are leaving the city whenever possible,” the spokesman said.

It was relatively calm in Slavyansk during the day on Friday after heavy night shelling.

Earlier on Friday, a representative of the self-defence force said that an International Red Cross mission had managed to deliver relief aid to Slavyansk in two light cars. “It was handed over to the hospital,” the source said without commenting on the cargo’s nature. The International Red Cross spokesperson in Kiev confirmed the fact of delivery of relief aid to Slavyansk to Itar-Tass.

“Ukrainian warplanes are circling over the city. An air alert has been announced. Since the planes are not delivering any strikes at the moment, people are not being evacuated from the city as of yet,” the press service said.
