Ukraine’s Poroshenko, Germany’s Merkel mull peace plan by phone

KIEV, June 12, /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine’s new president, Petro Poroshenko, and German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke by phone on Thursday about co-ordination of efforts aimed at deescalating the situation in the conflict-gripped eastern regions of Donetsk and Lugansk and about an ‘international contact group’ of Ukraine and OSCE for implementing the Ukrainian president’s peace road map, the Ukrainian presidential press service said.

Besides, they spoke about “interaction between Ukraine and the EU, including the energy security,” the press service said.

Merkel voiced her support of Poroshenko’s steps and “expressed her readiness to facilitate the process when the situation is brought back to normal.
