OUISTREHAM, June 06. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin had a short conversation with Ukrainian President-elect Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel before a formal lunch in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landing.
All guests of the solemn celebrations went out for a joint photo session in front of the Benouville Castle in Normandy. Putin's conversation with Poroshenko and Merkel took place after the session, on the way to the nearby building for a lunch.
Putin and Poroshenko agreed that the Ukrainian crisis may only be settled by peaceful political means, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
Putin and Poroshenko both spoke in favor of putting an end to the ongoing bloodshed in Ukraine’s south-eastern territories, Peskov added.
