Obama sets out on a European tour Monday

The principal purpose of Obama's European tour will be to strengthen trans-Atlantic contacts with the USA's allies

WASHINGTON, June 02 /ITAR-TASS/. US President Barack Obama on Monday sets out on a European tour, during which he will meet with Ukraine's President-elect Petr Poroshenko in Warsaw.

The American leader will visit Poland, Belgium, and France, Ben Rhodes, a key foreign-policy adviser on the White House staff, told reporters.

The principal purpose of Obama's European tour will be to strengthen trans-Atlantic contacts with the USA's allies, including those in reference to Ukraine's crisis. The White House official said Obama would discuss support for the people and government of Ukraine, efforts to strengthen and upgrade NATO, energy sufficiency and diversification of the deliveries of energy resources to Europe, as well as the course of the talks on trans-Atlantic trading partnership.
