Draft law on imposing state of emergency in Donetsk, Luhansk registered in Verkhovna Rada

KIEV, May 28. /ITAR-TASS/. A draft law has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada on introducing a state of emergency in Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The draft law was put forward by MP Mykola Rudkovsky.

Earlier on Wednesday,the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine has indefinitely extended the restrictions imposed on flights to Sergey Prokofyev International Airport in Donetsk on May 26 in connection with a force operation, says Denis Antonyuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian State Aviation Administration.

"Experts have been examining the aeronavigation infrastructure of the airport. The situation at the airport is not clear yet. Experts have not yet examined all the runways yet. One must make sure that everything is in order there. The airport workers have been evacuated because the situation remains unsafe," the press service quoted Antonyuk as saying.

 

Curfew imposed in Donetsk

Curfew was imposed in the city of Donetsk on May 27, the press service of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic reported.

“From 8.00 pm local time public transport will be halted until the situation normalizes. Besides, curfew is imposed in Donetsk between 10.00 pm and 06.00 am,” a source from the press service said.

He said getting out within this period of time “without emergency is dangerous for life”. “One must always carry ID documents,” the source added.

Besides, the leadership of the self-proclaimed republic asks people not to live personal vehicles on the streets adjacent to administrative buildings.

A school building has been heavily damaged as a result of artillery shelling in Sloviansk, Donetsk region. The Ukrainian law enforcers fired from artillery guns in the area of the settlement of Artyom, a representative of the people's self defenses forces told ITAR-TASS.

An artillery shell has destroyed the roof of the school building, preliminary reports said.

Earlier reports said fighter planes had again appeared over the city. Ukraine’s law-enforcers blocked all exits from Donetsk and did not even let passenger buses leave the area of military operation.
