Sloviansk bakery comes under artillery fire by Ukrainian military

SLOVIANSK, May 27. /ITAR-TASS/. The work of a bakery in the besieged city of Sloviansk in eastern Ukraine was interrupted after it came under artillery fire by the Ukrainian military, self-defense forces told ITAR-TASS on Tuesday.

The Ukrainian law enforcers resumed artillery fire on Sloviansk and the adjacent areas on Tuesday morning. Three shells exploded on the territory of the bakery. Its employees were not hurt, according to preliminary data. Efforts are underway to restore the bakery’s work, the self-defense forces said.

The buildings of the psychiatric hospital in the settlement of Semyonovka came again under artillery fire by the Ukrainian military. The hospital’s personnel and patients were timely evacuated.

The shelling of Sloviansk has stopped so far. The situation in the city is relatively calm. Public transport communication continues and shops, pharmacies and state institutions are operating in a normal regime.

Four civilians were killed in the shelling of the Artyom residential neighborhood by the Ukrainian military last night. The artillery fire also destroyed a residential building and smashed window glass in the pedagogical institute’s hostel and the institute’s building.

Explosion funnels can be seen all across this residential neighborhood, and electricity transmission lines and trolley contact wire were damaged. According to preliminary information, the work of water supply systems was interrupted.

A kindergarten is located in the close vicinity of the shelling area. According to preliminary data, there were no children in the kindergarten at the time of the shelling.

Submachine and machine gun fire was also heard on the approaches to Sloviansk.

The self-defense forces told ITAR-TASS, they continued to gather information on the victims and the death toll from the shelling by the Ukrainian military may increase.
