Brother of people’s mayor of Mariupol detained by police

One of his bodyguards was shot dead

Kiev, May 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian police have detained a brother of “people’s mayor” of the eastern city of Mariupol Dmitry Kuznenko, Denis Kuzmenko, according to the Ukrainian interior ministry.

“Denis Kuzmenko, a brother of the so-called “people’s mayor,” was detained in Mariupol. Kuzmenko has been taken outside the Donetsk region. Court will soon decide on the measure of restraint,” Anton Gerashchenko, an aide to the interior ministry, said on Sunday.

He added that one of Kuzmenko’s bodyguards had been shot dead. 

According to the Ukrainian interior ministry, Denis Kuzmenko is suspected of a series of crimes, including the seizure of administrative buildings and organizing attempts to frustrate elections in Ukraine.
