SHANGHAI, May 21. /ITAR-TASS/. A new security architecture should be created in Asia, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at a plenary meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in this Chinese city on Wednesday.

Turkey officially turned CICA presidency over to China on Wednesday.

The Chinese leader said in his speech that a new security architecture should be created in Asian region and stated that “despite growing threats and challenges Asia remains a promising and dynamic region.”

Xi noted that “security should be universal”, adding that security of some countries cannot be ensured at the expense of security of other countries.

“Disputes should be settled only in peaceful ways ruling out possible use of force or a threat of its use,” the Chinese president noted.

He added that the CICA was also interested in development of economic and ecological relations.

“Asian peoples experience a strong desire for international peace and stability,” Xi added.

The Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia brings together 24 countries, other nine countries and four international organizations have an observer status. An idea to found this structure was put forward in 1992. The CICA aims at developing an all-Asia dialogue forum to debate key regional problems and co-operation development between the CICA member states.
