Japanese fighters lifted to intercept Russian warplanes

TOKYO, May 21. /ITAR-TASS/. Fighters of Japanese Air Self-Defense Force were lifted to intercept two Russian warplanes on Wednesday, the Japanese Defense Ministry said. The ministry stated that these warplanes had got closely to the air space of the island country from the Sea of Japan (the East Sea).

The ministry stated that Russian anti-submarine aircrafts Tu-142 were detected near the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. Russian warplanes turned around at Tsushima Strait and set on the return course.

The Japanese Defense Ministry noted that the country’s air space had not been violated.
