KALININGRAD, May 16. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Central Election Commission has received an invitation from Syria to send its observers to the presidential elections in that country scheduled for June 3, chairman of the Russian Central Election Commission Vladimir Churov said on Friday.

“We are closely watching the election processes in the countries of the Middle East: Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, and Syria,” he said. “We have good cooperation relations with central election commission in those countries, and not only those countries.”

When asked whether Russian observers would monitor the presidential polls in Syria, Churov noted, “All I can say now — time will show. We have received an invitation from Syria and are considering it.”

In Kaliningrad, Churov is chairing a seminar for regional election commission members ahead of elections in Russian regions on September 14, 2014. The seminar is attended by chairmen of election commission from 29 regions of Russia’s Northwestern and Central federal districts.
