DONETSK, May 14. /ITAR-TASS/. Almost all policemen in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, the population of which is waging struggle to transform the country into a federation, have come down to the side of the volunteer popular guard, the press center of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) told ITAR-TASS Wednesday.

“We can’t always fight,” a spokesman for the press center said. “We must also refurbish the system of Interior agencies and for this purpose we’re combining the functions of policemen and volunteer popular guards.”

Co-Chairman of Presidium of the DPR, Miroslav Rudenko, said earlier Wednesday that that governor of the Donetsk region, business tycoon Sergei Taruta, who had been appointed by the incumbent authorities in Kiev, did not have any real power in the region.
