East Ukraine’s Donetsk referendum turnout already above 30%

“Voting is under way in most cities of Donetsk Region very intensively", chairman of the Central Election Commission of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people’s republic Roman Lyagin

KIEV, May 11, 12:46 /ITAR-TASS/. The turnout at a referendum on self-determination of east Ukraine’s Donetsk Region “has already exceeded 30%,” Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people’s republic Roman Lyagin told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

“Voting is under way in most cities of Donetsk Region very intensively,” he said, noting that “We did not expect such a high turnout, but voting committees are coping with their work. We have already exceeded a 30% turnout. We expect that a turnout of 35% may be reached by noon, but then a decline in voting activity will follow until Sunday evening.”

“Not a problem, but a trouble” has occurred in the town of Krasny Liman and the same-name district in Donetsk Region, Lyagin said, noting “There is no mobile phone contact with them. Probably, a clash is on there.
