Lukashenko calls for efforts towards deescalation in Ukraine

MINSK, May 09. /ITAR-TASS/. Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko called for making all efforts towards preventing the escalation of conflict in Ukraine.

"Clouds have gathered over the fraternal Slavic country where a brother raised a hand on a brother. We should stop it, cost what it may," Lukashenko said at a wreath-laying ceremony on the occasion of Victory Day on Friday.

"Some politicians forget history lessons today trying to belittle the role of the Soviet people in victory over Nazism, indulging the revival of Nazism," he said.

"To accommodate political and geostrategic ambitions, purposeful activity is being carried out to destabilize the political situation in sovereign states. We see it in the Middle East, North Africa and other conflicts areas. It hurts to say that Ukraine, a close country to us, has become one of such conflict areas," Lukashenko went on.
