DONETSK, May 08./ITAR-TASS/. Several hundred people are rallying in the center of the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk in support of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic despite heavy rain.
They are urging fellow citizens to vote for the Republic in the upcoming referendum on the status of the region slated for May 11. They are chanting “We will win!”, “We won’t forgive Odessa” and “Away with the junta!” and urging law enforcers to join their ranks.
The Donetsk region and the neighboring Luhansk region have decided against postponing the referendum and will hold it on May 11 as planned.
After the rally its participants were planning to march along the streets of Donetsk but cancelled their plans because of the rain. Activists of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic are ensuring law and order during the rally.
