BANGKOK/MOSCOW, May 7. /ITAR-TASS/. The North of Thailand have continued to shake the aftershocks, where on Monday evening a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.0 took place. Seismologists have recorded 274 aftershocks in the province of Chiang Rai where the epicenter of disaster was located, Asian Disaster Preparedness Center reported. Magnitude most of them did not exceed 3.0.

According to the US Geological Survey, an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 with the epicenter at 27 kilometers from the city of Chiang Rai (the administrative center of the province) occurred on May 5. According to local authorities, one person died, 23 people were injured. Most of the houses in the epicenter of the earthquake severely damaged. Several Buddhist temples were also destroyed, including the famous White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), which is the main tourist attraction in the province.

A highway from Chiang Rai to Bangkok seriously damaged. There are deep cracks and fractures on the road. Highway traffic is temporarily suspended.
