CAIRO, May 5./TAR-TASS/. Libyan parliament finally approved Amhed Maiteeq as the new prime minister. According to Sky News Arabia, at the meeting of the General National Congress (INC - interim parliament) held on Monday, its chairman signed the appointment of businessman from Misurata a new head of government of Libya.

Thus, Maiteeq can now officially enter the office and begin the formation of the cabinet. On Sunday, after several unsuccessful polls Ahmed Maiteeq was elected as the new prime minister, beating, so its only competitor, Omar al-Hassi, a scientist from Benghazi. However, late in the evening it became known that the vote was declared invalid because a quorum of 120 votes was not gained, and a few votes were counted incorrectly. And a result of the Maiteeq election was questionable. It was heard from Tripoli that his predecessor Abdullah al-Thini will continue to serve the duties of the head of government. Ultimately, the speaker of parliament decided to put a final decision to this slightly long-standing process.
