Estonian foreign ministry advises officials to skip VE Day celebrations at Russian embassy

Experts say that media reports about this letter are a “sanctioned information leak”

TALLINN, April 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Estonia’s Foreign Ministry has recommended state officials to refrain from taking part in the celebration on the occasion of the VE Day and the Day of Russia organized by the Russian embassy in Tallinn.

“We recommend not to take part in these events at any level,” director of the Estonian Foreign Ministry’s East European and Central Asian Bureau Celia Kuningas said in a letter of recommendation made public by local media on Thursday.

“There is no need to substantiate the refusal,” the latter said. However, if need be, it is possible to say in an official conversation that Estonia disagrees with Russia’s position on the Ukrainian crisis that is why informal communication is unacceptable.
