BOGOTA, April 21. /ITAR-TASS/. A tourist vessel has sunk in the Amazon River. Three Russians were injured, Colombia’s police reported on Sunday.
“The vessel sank on Saturday night in the Amazon River near Colombia’s central city of the Amazonas department - Leticia,” the police said. “One person died, ten people are missing. On board the vessel were three Russian nationals, tourists.” The lives of the Russian tourists are not at risk, they were taken to hospital.
The accident occurred at the border between Colombia and Peru, and most passengers were rescued without delay by the local Air Force, which controls the zone. The vessel headed from Peru’s Iquitos to Peru’s port of Santa Rosa.
The investigation of the accident is underway.
