'Contradictions' fuel global stability — security chiefs

DUSHANBE, April 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Senior security officials of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) gathered in Tajikistan on Thursday to discuss deeper partnership in the fight against terrorism, separatism, extremism, drug-trafficking and cross-border crime.

Tension from political, religious, ethnic and socio-economic contradictions in the Middle East, North Africa and other areas adjacent to SCO territory had a negative impact on regional and global stability, they said, addressing teh situation in Afghanistan and supporting the Afghan nation's efforts towards reconciliation and peaceful rebuilding of the state.

Greeted by Tajikistan's President Emomali Rakhmon, the meeting gathered security council secretaries from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, Chinese Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun, Deputy Security Council Secretary of Uzbekistan Shavkat Shakirov, and SCO Secretary General Dmitry Mezentsev. Russia's delegation was led by Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev.
