Greek Communists accuse West of conniving with fascist forces in Ukraine

ATHENS, April 17, /ITAR-TASS/. The United States, the European Union and NATO did not hesitate to support fascist forces in Ukraine for the sake of their political interests, said a statement of the Communist Party of Greece on Wednesday in connection with Kiev’s military operation against protesters in the south-east of Ukraine.

“The government in Kiev, that came to power as a result of a coup and is supported by the US, the EU and NATO, has turned the armed forces of Ukraine against protesters, against the people of Eastern Ukraine, causing new bloodshed,” the Communist Party said in its statement. “This is a conflict, that comes after an open interference of imperialistic forces in Ukraine and against the background of their tough competition with Russia for control over energy resources and the routes of their delivery, shows that capitalism brings only suffering to the peoples,” the statement said.

It said “apparently, the US, the EU and NATO, which don’t hesitate to support even fascist forces in the Kiev government for advancing their geopolitical interests, are putting stakes now on further escalation and confrontation with Russia”.

“In fact, they are playing with fire of a larger-scale war, that will be waged not only through diplomatic, political and financial means, but also through military ones,” it said. “Thus, they are creating a threat of a huge catastrophe and numerous casualties for our big region and peoples,” it added.

The statement said “it is getting evident, that NATO is not a guarantor of peace and security, as Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras maintains in connection with the developments in Ukraine, but the Alliance has become a factor of war and destabilization for the peoples”. “The earlier the Greek and other peoples get free of all imperialistic organizations, the better,” the Communist Party said.
