VIENNA, April 13, /ITAR-TASS/. The regional executive power in Ukraine should be appointed not from Kiev, but by the regions themselves, Ukrainian presidential candidate, leader of the Batkivshchina (Fatherland) party Yulia Timoshenko said on Saturday in an interview to the Austrian online newspaper Presse.
Asked how to get the support of the Russian-speaking population in the east to avoid the country’s split, Timoshenko said that “on no condition the law on regional languages should be abolished.” She also believes that “it is necessary to urgently adopt the budget code that will give the regions a considerable financial independence.”
“And the regional authorities should be appointed not from Kiev, but by the regions themselves. All this taken together will be regarded in the east as the regional freedom that people there want,” Timoshenko believes.
