12 people killed, about 40 injured in train explosion in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, April 8. /ITAR-TASS/. At least 12 people became victims of a train explosion that happened on Tuesday in the western Pakistani province of Balochistan, according to local media reports.

According to available reports, the explosion occurred in one of the cars of a passenger train en route from Quetta to Rawalpindi, when the train set was at the station of Sibi. As a result of the incident, at least 40 people were wounded, with women and children among the killed and injured.

Representatives of law enforcement agencies reported that, according to preliminary data, the explosives were delivered into the train car soon after the train arrived in Sibi. A local police officer noted that the train came 10 minutes earlier than scheduled. Following the blast, fire emerged, and the train car, where the explosion occurred, completely burned out, while another three cars were damaged by the fire.

The circumstances of the incident, as well as the information on the number of victims, are being specified.
