Leftwing party leader wins presidential elections in Costa Rica

The winner in presidential elections will assume the office of president on May 8 and will rule Costa Rica until 2018

MEXICO, April 07. /ITAR-TASS/. First results of presidential elections in Costa Rica, Central America, showed that opposition candidate from leftwing Citizens’ Action Party Luis Guillermo Solis had won in the polls, the Supreme Election Tribunal of the Central American country said on Sunday.

Solis has gained 77.69% of votes, the Supreme Election Tribunal said. His rival, candidate from the ruling National Liberation Party Johnny Araya has polled 22.31 percent of votes.

The winner in presidential elections will assume the office of president on May 8 and will rule Costa Rica until 2018.
