KIEV, April 06 /ITAR-TASS/. Supporters of the idea of Ukraine’s federalization have seized the building of the regional administration in the city of Kharkiv, in Eastern Ukraine, local media report on Sunday.
It took the protesters about ten minutes to shove back law enforcers, who were guarding the entrance to the building, and get inside.
One of the activists held a Russian flag from a window on the second floor, where the governor’s office is located. Protesters chanted, “The police are with the people.” Some of the policemen stepped aside.
About 2,000 people gathered in Kharkiv’s central Freedom Square late on Sunday to “support Donetsk and Lugansk, where protesters had seized administrative buildings earlier in the day,” . More people are coming to the square. Participants are carrying the flags of Russia, the former Soviet Union and the Ukrainian Soviet Republic. They are chanting “Russia.”
