THE HAGUE, March 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini has emphasized the importance of preserving the current G8 format. She was speaking earlier on Monday while accompanying Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi at the Nuclear Security Summit.
Russia is an important partner on the international arena. The world community should continue the dialogue at the present level, she said.
Commenting on Europe’s attitude towards the Ukrainian crisis, the Italian foreign minister said Europe was too late to realize its consequences.
“It was necessary to start working on the Association Agreement in advance to make the document compatible with the Customs Union. In that case we would be able to avoid the present situation between Russia and Ukraine,” Mogherini said.
She recognized that the EU had faced certain difficulties in working out a united policy.
