VIENNA, March 13. /ITAR-TASS/. Austrian police have arrested Dmitry Firtash, a 48-year-old Ukrainian tycoon whom the FBI suspects of involvement in setting up an organized criminal grouping, the Austrian news agency APA said.
Dmitry Firtash is said to have major business interests in the gas industry.
A police spokesman told the agency the oligarch was detained as part of an effort to assist the FBI, which had been investigating his activities since 2006.
The spokesman claimed that Firtash’s detention was not linked in any way to events in Ukraine, since the investigation of his case began several years ago.
“The suspect did not offer any physical resistance during detention,” the police report said.
