CIS deputy foreign minister meeting cancelled

MINSK, March 13. /ITAR-TASS/. A meeting of CIS deputy foreign ministers planned for March 14 is cancelled, a source at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk told Itar-Tass.

The planned meeting is cancelled because the Ukrainian side has refused to participate, the source said.

Representatives of CIS member states at an extraordinary meeting recently decided to hold a meeting of deputy foreign ministers in Minsk on March 14 to discuss the situation in Ukraine. Most of the CIS countries did not support Ukraine's initiative to hold an extraordinary meeting of the CIS Foreign Minister Council in Kiev on March 12, 2014 and decided to plan a meeting of deputy foreign ministers for March 14 in Minsk.

Earlier, Belarus said it was possible to hold a meeting of deputy foreign ministers in Minsk on March 14. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press secretary Dmitry Mironchik said the ministry had officially informed the CIS Executive Committee that it supported the proposal.
