MADRID, March 05. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian-Spanish trade volume exceeded $11 billion, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday following a meeting with his Spanish counterpart Jose Garcia-Margallo on Wednesday.

“We have confirmed the determination to develop economic and investment cooperation,” Lavrov said. Total trade volume exceeded $11 billion despite the Eurozone’s problems, he added.

Another session of the intergovernmental commission will gather in a couple of weeks in Madrid to discuss new promising projects and be accompanied by a business forum, “an important instrument to strengthen direct business contacts”. The two ministers have also agreed to step up work on a number of new accords, including an agreement about mutual recognition of driving licenses, which will directly “create the most comfortable conditions possible for our citizens’ contacts”, as well as agreements on military and space cooperation between the countries’ defense ministries.

Lavrov also noted the importance of tourism ties: 1.5 million Russians visited Spain last year, while 100,000 Spanish citizens came to Russia.
