KIEV, February 27. /ITAR-TASS/. The opposition Party of Regions’ faction in the Verkhovna Rada (national parliament) said Oleksandr Turchynov of the ruling Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party was a legitimate president.
“The interim president today is Mr. Oleksandr Turchynov. He has been approved by the Verkhovna Rada, the only legitimate body in the country. This is the position of the faction,” Mikhail Chechetov of the Party of Regions said on Thursday, February 27.
At the same time, his colleague Olena Bondarenko disagreed with him. “Until a new president is elected, Viktor Yanukovych is a legitimate president,” she said.
