Belarus confident draft Eurasian Economic Union agreement will be ready by May 1

MINSK, February 27, /ITAR-TASS/. Belarus is confident that a draft agreement on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union will be ready by May 1, 2014.

“We hope we will be able to prepare the draft by the fixed date, working in the regime of regular contacts,” Belarusian Minister of Justice Oleg Slizhevsky told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

According to the minister, a number of aspects have not yet been coordinated in various spheres. The 700-page working version of the document provides each and every detail of relations between the signatories to the future agreement. “The task is to work out an agreement that will need no exemptions,” he noted.

He said the document was being drafted in an online regime both at the expert level and at the level of deputy prime ministers.

Presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan earlier agreed that the draft agreement on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union should be ready for signing by March 1, 2014. After it is signed by the president, the agreement will be submitted to the parliaments of its member countries for ratification. The Eurasian Economic Union is planned to be launched from January 1, 2015.
