Governors of Ukraine’s Vinnitsa, Zhitomir regions step down

KIEV, February 24, 3:51 /ITAR-TASS/. The head of the Vinnitsa Regional Administration, Ivan Movchan, has stepped down, his press-service said.

“In view of the current socio-political situation the central authorities have allowed to emerge, which has resulted in the death of tens of Ukrainians, I made a decision to give up my powers of the chairman of the Vinnitsa regional state administration. As the head of the region I have been doing my utmost to maintain peace and calm in the territory of the region throughout this dramatic period and to ensure our region proceed confidently along the path of development,” Movchan said.

His resignation statement is dated February 22, but it was made public the next day, on Sunday.

The Ukrainian media have also carried reports the head of the Zhitomir Region, Sergei Ryzhuk has resigned of his own accord.

“On February 22 Ryzhuk signed a statement he was quitting the post of the Zhitomir Region Administration chief,” the local press-service said.
