MOSCOW, February 13. /ITAR-TASS/. A statement saying Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s resignation can facilitate the fight against terrorism is aimed at backing this evil, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at the 2+2 format meeting on Thursday.

“A statement by the Western partners saying terrorism should be stopped only after al-Assad resigns means that they ignore a basic and universal principle - nothing can justify terrorism,” the Russian minister said.
