KIEV, February 12. /ITAR-TASS/. President Viktor Yanukovich has met European Commissioner for the Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule for talks on the settlement of the political crisis in Ukraine, the presidential press service reported on Wednesday.
“Yanukovich and Fule discussed the settlement of the political crisis in Ukraine by dialogue between the authorities, the opposition and the civil society to avoid violence and extremist actions, and respect human rights,” the press service said.
Yanukovich noted the EU’s and the Council of Europe’s active role in searching for democratic ways to overcome the crisis in Ukraine. “The parties stressed that it was important to give an objective and unbiased assessment to the situation in the state,” the press service said.
Fule arrived in Kiev on Tuesday, February 11. He had a meeting with the Ukrainian opposition.
