TEHERAN, February 09, 2:46 /ITAR-TASS/. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Saturday the United States would wish to overthrow the Iranian regime if it could.

"American officials publicly say they do not seek regime change in Iran. That's a lie. They wouldn't hesitate a moment if they could do it," Khamenei was quoted as saying.

Iran’s Supreme Spiritual Leader explained that Iran’s hostile stance toward the United States was due to its desire to control and meddle in the internal affairs of other countries.

He also said that in a bid to defend itself, Iran should change tactics but stay loyal to its basic values.
