Japanese missile defense no threat to Russia’s security

SOCHI, February 08. /ITAR-TASS/. Japan’s missile defense does not pose a threat to Russia, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in Sochi on Saturday.

“Japan’s missile defense is an exclusively defense system, which is aimed at protecting people’s life and security in the event of a missile threat,” Abe said, adding “As premier I guarantee that it is not aimed against Russia.”

Russia “is Japan’s important strategic partner in ensuring stability and security in the region”, Abe said.

“I’d like to say we continue developing such cooperation in the future,” the Japanese premier stressed.
