KIEV, February 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich has met U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Sochi to discuss the situation in Ukraine and further cooperation, the presidential press service reported on Friday.
Yanukovich said Ukraine praised the U.N. initiative on the political settlement. “I’m grateful for your balanced and weighty position and I share your calls for showing restraint in order to avoid further tension and violence and hold a constructive dialogue,” the Ukrainian president said.
Ukrainian authorities will exert maximum effort to prevent the conflict from escalation. “Lately we’ve succeeded in taking important steps towards settling the situation in Ukraine by peaceful means,” Yanukovich said.
