KIEV, February 05. /ITAR-TASS/. Cossacks have started patrolling streets of Donetsk and other cities of the region, leader of the Party of Regions’ brach Igor Chichesov said.

“Cossacks are patrolling streets with law enforcement agencies. Now about 2,000 Cossacks take part in patrols in Donetsk,” Chichesov said.

The creation of such detachments “was a reaction to radicals’ actions. The patrols of Cossacks will help strengthen stability and ensure public order”, he said.

“The situation in the region is stable and predictable. We seek to normalise the people’s life in the region,” the party’s official said.

Members of Cossack organisations are taking part in ensuring public order in the Donetsk, Kharkov, Lugansk and Dnepropetrovsk regions, Zaporozhye and Crimea, head of the international public organisation “Vernoye Kazachestvo” (Faithful Cossacks) Alexei Selivanov told Itar-Tass.

“The participation of Cossacks in ensuring public order is designed to stabilise the situation. This also proves that public organisations, including Cossack ones, increase their role by realising the common interests,” Selivanov said.

Cossacks will also guard buildings of regional administrations, he said, adding “Several Cossacks will be at the entry of buildings. But it if necessary other members of the Cossack organisations are ready to assist to them.
