ASTANA, February 05. /ITAR-TASS/. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev believes that social problems are the main cause of the worsening situation in Ukraine.

"Judge for yourself: no matter what experts tell about the reasons behind the current aggravation of the situation in Ukraine, the main causes are hidden in social problems," Nazarbayev said on Wednesday at the annual meeting with heads of diplomatic missions and organizations accredited in Kazakhstan.

"Those who know about the economy of the Soviet Union remember that Ukraine stably was the second powerful republic after Russia. Today, its economy is 25% less than Kazakhstan's. It should not have happened," the president said.

In this connection, he underlined that "Ukraine's 50-million population should have addressed economic issues first, not politics."

Unresolved social problems in a number of countries still pose a threat of domestic conflicts, such as unemployment, especially among youths, the Kazakh leader added.
