Day of mourning declared in Ukraine’s Sumy on Wednesday over death of 12 in accident

KIEV, February 04, 23:45 /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine’s Sumy region has declared Wednesday, February 5, a day of mourning over the death of 12 people in a disastrous traffic accident, the press service of the regional administration said on Tuesday.

Head of the Sumy region administration Igor Yavdik extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the accident.

The accident took place at 15:35 local time (17:35 Moscow time), when a passenger bus on its route from Sumy to Virovskoye was rammed by a passenger train heading from Kharkov to Vorozhba. “All the bus passengers were either killed or injured,” a spokesman for the regional department of the state emergencies service told Itar-Tass. “Those injured were taken to local hospitals. The train’s passengers were not hurt. The train did not go off rails.” The emergencies service official said he had no information whether there were citizens of other states among the crash victims.

According to the Ukrainian ministry of health, the accident killed 12 people, six, including a child, were injured, three of them are in serious condition, the rest - in condition of medium gravity.
