Russia urges partners to influence militants in Yarmouk to deliver humanitarian aid

UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) delivered and distributed foodstuffs to 1,026 families in the Palestinian camp of Yarmouk

MOSCOW, January 31. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia urges the external parties, which are able to influence the opposition’s militants in the area of the Palestinian camp of Yarmouk in order to deliver humanitarian assistance to the population, the Foreign Ministry reported on Friday.

Commenting on a shooting attack on a convoy, which delivered foodstuffs to the camp, the ministry said, “The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) jointly with the Syrian authorities and charitable organizations delivered and distributed foodstuffs to 1,026 families in the Palestinian camp of Yarmouk, near Damascus, on January 30,” the report says.

“Such constructive decision has been taken due to energetic contribution of the Russian Embassy in Damascus,” the report says.

At the same time, the ministry regretted that this important humanitarian action had been interrupted due to the shooting attack. “Depending on the situation the delivery of humanitarian cargoes to the Yarmouk camp can be resumed on January 31,” the ministry said.

“Moscow urges all external parties, which are able to influence militants of illegal armed units in Yarmouk, to make contribution to ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to peaceful civilians in the camp,” the ministry said.
