Radiation level rises at Sellafield nuclear power plant

Many of its employees are recommended to stay at home

LONDON, January 31. /ITAR-TASS/. As a result of unexpected increase of radiation level on Friday the work of Sellafield nuclear facility in the north-west of England was partially suspended, Sky News reports.

According to an official statement made by the administration of Sellafield, the facility is currently back in operation, but with a reduced number of employees. Only the most necessary specialists are at work, and the others were recommended to stay at home on Friday.

The reason of an unexpected radiation rise is being investigated. It is not ruled out that it has been triggered by severe weather conditions: rainfalls continue in the area for several days, and they may pose a threat of flooding.
