Security at Ukraine’s nuclear plants raised to Level 2

KIEV, January 30. /ITAR-TASS/. Security at Ukraine’s nuclear power plants has been raised to Level 2, one of the three existing levels of alert, Pyotr Chernov, the director of the Energy and Mining Ministry’s department director said Thursday.

“There’s a standard pattern of security maintenance and an emergency pattern,” he said. “We have the second level of readiness now and it envisions reinforced patrolling at control posts, as well as expansion of controls in the sanitary protection areas.”

Chernov gave the assurances that Ukraine will be committed to all of its obligations under international treaties and conventions.
