People's squads formed in Odessa to prevent seizure of administration buildings

More than 500 people have already joined volunteer squads

ODESSA, January 28. /ITAR-TASS/. Squads of volunteers are formed in Odessa to prevent attempts to seize state administrative and public buildings, leader of the all-Ukrainian Youth Unity movement Anton Davidchenkov told reporters on Tuesday.

"We have begun to form people's squads. More than 500 people have already responded to our call, and I think there will be more Odessa residents who want to prevent violent seizure of power, as it happened in other regions of the country,” he said.

Chairman of the Odessa regional administration Nikolai Skorik thanked Odessa residents, thanks to whose active position, plans of extremists arriving from other regions were thwarted. He said this in his address to the city's residents published by local media on Tuesday.

There are reports that some hotheads would like to spread disorders to the region. They realize that they have no support among most of the population and count on thugs and militants arriving from other regions, Skorik said in an interview to Itar-Tass.

On Sunday, a column of hundreds of protesters led by masked young people marched along Odessa streets to the regional administration. Seizure of the building was prevented by supporters of the authorities who began their meeting on Sunday morning in protest against the opposition’s disorders in Kiev and other cities.
