Governor of Ukraine’s western region compelled to resign by mob of ‘protesters’

KIEV, January 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Governor of Ukraine’s western Volyn region Boris Klimchuk has resigned, local television said.

He signed a resignation request under pressure from a mob of 6,000 or so ‘protesters’, who gathered for a meeting in the center of Lutsk, the regional administrative center.

Chairman of the regional council, Vladimir Voitovich also filed a request on stepping down from his position earlier in the day. He had to do so after talks with representatives of the opposition and protest action activists.
