Russia and Korea to build icebreaker for Finland

MOSCOW, January 23 (Itar-Tass) - Finland's Arctech Helsinki shipyard, a joint venture of Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) and Korean heavy equipment provider STX Corporation, has won an icebreaker construction tender for the Finnish transportation agency, the Russian enterprise said.

The vessel will be delivered to the Finnish agency in the winter of 2016, powered either by diesel or liquefied natural gas to deliver 19mW of propulsion. It can manoeuvre in ice 1.6 metres thick and can be used for oil spill collection and emergency rescue purposes.

State-owned USC is an amalgamation of around 60 shipbuilding companies.
