Ukraine prioritises development of trade, economic cooperation

During the presidency in the CIS, Ukraine intends to create conditions for ensuring equal competition, protecting the rights of an owner and an investor and removing separate barriers

KIEV, January 14. /ITAR-TASS/. This year Ukraine prioritises the development of trade and economic cooperation based on the CIS free trade zone agreement and the WTO principles, Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevgeny Perebeynos said on Tuesday.

“During the presidency in the CIS, Ukraine intends to create conditions for ensuring equal competition, protecting the rights of an owner and an investor and removing separate barriers, which prevent trade and innovation relations,” the diplomat said.

Ukraine “will exert effort to prepare agreements on transit by pipelines, on trade by services and a protocol to gradually remove export duties”, he said.

He named energy interaction with the CIS most important for Ukraine. “Kiev intends to facilitate the development of cooperation to transport energy resources, make supplies reliable and work out clear principles of the activity of the member-states,” Perebeynos said.

Special attention will be riveted to a dialogue between the CIS Electrical Energy Council and the EU Electric Power Energy Industry, the Ukrainian diplomat said.

He told Itar-Tass that Ukraine was planning to gather the CIS Economic Council in March. The Council of CIS Heads of Government will be held in May while the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers and the Council of CIS Heads of State will take place in October 2014, the spokesman said.
