BRICS summit planning to be held in Brazil in July

RIO DE JANEIRO, January 11, /ITAR-TASS/. The BRICS summit involving Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa is planning to take place in Fortaleza, Brazil, in July, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

The exact date of the summit has not been specified yet, the ministry said, adding that all BRICS members should coordinate the date.

Initially the BRICS summit was expected to be held in March or April. Such term was named by Brazilian officials. Folha de S.Paulo Newspaper wrote that the date was being changed at China’s request. The summit may gather in Fortaleza on July 15, the newspaper writes, adding that Brazil does not want the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the BRICS summit to coincide by time because it will take double efforts. Thus, under BRICS practice, the host party has right to determine the date of the summit. However, the date and the place of the summit is being thoroughly coordinated by diplomatic channels.
