Hong Kong media mogul Shaw dies at 106

In 1958 Run Run Shaw created one of Asia’s most famous and influential movie production companies The Shaw Brothers that produced over 1,000 films in the Chinese language

HONG KONG, January 07, /ITAR-TASS/. Hong Kong media mogul and philanthropist Run Run Shaw died at the age of 106, the Xinhua news agency has reported.

In 1958 Run Run Shaw created one of Asia’s most famous and influential movie production companies The Shaw Brothers that produced over 1,000 films in the Chinese language. The company also co-produced Japanese and western movies, in particular best-known film Blade Runner (1982) by English film director Sir Ridley Scott.

Run Run Shaw actively engaged in supporting charity projects. In 2002 he established an annual international research award known as ‘Asian Nobel Prize’. In 2008 Russian researchers Vladimir Arnold and Ludwig Faddeev received the Shaw Prize for “comprehensive and important contribution to mathematical physics.
