TEHRAN, January 02, 17:27 /ITAR-TASS/. One person was killed and several people were injured as a result of an earthquake in southern Iran, local media reported on Thursday, January 2.
The first shock had a magnitude of 5.5 and was registered at 06:44 local time 64 km southeast of Gerash, Fars Province. The quake was centred at a depth of 10 km and was followed by aftershocks measuring from 4.3 to 3.8.
Local television said that 16 injured people were in hospitals and rescuers were at work at the scene of the earthquake.
