Yanukovich: Ukraine should continue preparations for signing Association Agreement with EU

Ukraine’s pause in this issue does not mean that the country stops the process, the president emphasized

KIEV, December 26. /ITAR-TASS/. The parliament and the government should closely cooperate over preparations for signing the Association Agreement with the European Union that would meet the national interests, President Viktor Yanukovich said at a session of the Council of Regions on Thursday.

Ukraine’s pause in this issue does not mean that the country stops the process. “We continue the movement towards the European Union and we continue the dialogue with the EU on further steps towards real effective cooperation,” the president said.

Officials, who worked on the agreement, “did not coordinate provisions of the document with unions of manufacturers, did not hold discussions and failed to reach mutual understanding”, he said.

“I expect you to put forth proposals. I’m sure that we should learn to protect our interests and achieve goals in any issue related to state interests,” Yanukovich said.
